Bethlehem's Reason for Being

  1. Bethlehem exists to provide a Word and sacrament ministry to the Indianapolis community.
  2. Bethlehem exists to promote healing.
  3. Bethlehem exists to promote faith development.
  4. Bethlehem exists to serve as a transforming arena.
  5. Bethlehem exists to change the world as its members respond to the Spirit's call.
  6. Bethlehem exists to conduct an effective rather than a successful ministry.

About the ELCA

Bethlehem Lutheran Church is a member of the Indiana-Kentucky Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The Lutheran Church thinks of itself as only a part of the whole Christian church. We are heirs to a historical heritage that goes back to the sixteenth century reformation of the church led by Dr. Martin Luther.

Witness and Outreach Committee

This committee invites our community to church at Bethlehem; welcomes and assists visitors and prospective members; and introduces them to Bethlehem and its programs.

Rudiments course

Inquisitive visitors, people from other traditions wishing to join Bethlehem, and any others desiring a refresher course in the Lutheran tradition, may take the "Rudiments" class taught by Pastor Felde. The class is offered as needed throughout the year.

Welcome

Bethlehem welcomes visitors to worship and to participation in our various activities. If you are interested in becoming a member, please speak to Pastor Felde. We hope that all our visitors will fill out a visitor's card found in the pews, so we can make contact with you and send you our newsletter, the Blaze.
